Introductory activity

What you will need:

  • A tub of molding clay (like Play-Doh)

What to do:

  1. Model the lowercase o out of the clay.
  2. Show your child the sculpture and tell them that it is a lowercase o, and that it makes the sound ‘oh’ or ‘ah’ when used in a word.
  3. Ask your child to try to mold a lowercase o like yours.

Challenge

If your child learns the lower case o right away, have them work on the supplemental worksheets for the letter O.

Reinforcement activity

Print out the attached worksheet. Ask your child to complete the worksheet by themselves. Feel free to help out if they get stuck or ask any questions.

Evaluation

In order to see if your child has achieved the goal of this lesson, write the letter o on a piece of paper surrounded by other letters. Ask your child to look at the group of letters and pick out the small letter o.
