Vietnam is a narrow country. At its narrowest point, Vietnam is only about 30 miles wide! The Mekong River and Red River in Vietnam meet in the south of the country at the South China Sea. Where these two rivers meet can be found very swampy areas called deltas, where most of the people in Vietnam live. These very fertile deltas are especially good places to grow crops. Rice is grown in these deltas in flat, tiered plains called rice paddies.
