Time requirement
20 minutes.
Grade level
Pre-kindergarten – Kindergarten
Introductory activity
What you will need:
- A wipe board
- A dry erase (not permanent) marker
What to do:
- Draw the letter t on the wipe board and ask your child to repeat its name.
- Ask them to try to draw the capital letter t on the wipe board. Guide their hand to help them write it. Show them how the t looks like a vertical line crossed by a smaller horizontal line.
- Write “top” on the wipe board and circle the T. Explain to them how it makes the sound ‘tuh’.
Challenge
If your child learns the lower case t right away, have them work on the supplemental worksheets for the letter T.
Reinforcement activity
Print out the attached worksheet. Ask your child to complete the worksheet by themselves. Feel free to help out if they get stuck or ask any questions.
Evaluation
In order to see if your child has achieved the goal of this lesson, write the small letter t on the wipe board surrounded by other letters. Ask your child to look at the group of letters and pick out the letter t.
