To help your child learn the lower case letter j.
Goal
At the end of the lesson your child will be able to recognize the lower case letter j and say its name.

Introductory activity
What you will need:
- A piece of paper
- A pair of scissors
- A pencil
What to do:
- Draw two thick lower case letter ‘j’s on a piece of paper.
- Cut one out and show it to your child. Tell them that it is the lowercase letter j, and that it makes the sound ‘juh’.
- Ask them to cut out the other lower case letter j on the paper, read more here. As they are cutting out the letter, have them make the ‘juh’ sound to reinforce the letter and its sound.
Challenge
If your child learns the lower case j right away, have them work on the supplemental worksheets for the letter J.
Reinforcement activity
Print out the attached worksheet. Ask your child to complete the worksheet by themselves. Feel free to help out if they get stuck or ask any questions.
Evaluation
In order to see if your child has achieved the goal of this lesson, ask your child to pick out the letter j on a piece of paper with the small letter j and other letters written on it.
