To help your child learn the lower case letter a.
Goal
At the end of the lesson your child will be able to recognize the lower case letter a and say its name.
Time requirement
20 minutes.
Grade level
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
Introductory activity
What you will need:
- Some apple slices
- A piece of paper
- Some crayons
What to do:
- Draw an apple on a piece of paper and write the lower case a on the paper.
- Have your child copy your letter a a few times on the paper.
- Explain how the word apple starts with the letter a and the sound it makes is ‘ah’.
- Eat the slices of apple together. Before each slice say, “apple starts with the letter a”, and have them repeat it.
Challenge
If your child learns the lower case a right away, have them work on the supplemental worksheets for the letter A.
Reinforcement activity
Print out the attached worksheet. Ask your child to complete the worksheet by themselves. Feel free to help them if they get stuck or ask any questions.
Evaluation
In order to see if your child has achieved the goal of this lesson, as them to write the lower case a on a piece of paper.
