Objective
The objective of this lesson is to help your child learn to recognize and write the capital letter T.
Goal
At the end of the lesson your child will be able to recognize the letter T and say its name.
Time requirement
20 minutes.
Grade level
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
Introductory activity
What you will need:
- At least three pencils (perhaps colored pencil crayons)
- A piece of paper
What to do:
- Take two of the pencils and form an upper case T with them (with one a horizontal stick at the top, one a vertical stick underneath). Tell them that the symbol you’ve made is the T, and the sound it makes is ‘tuh’.
- Give the other pencil to your child and have your child draw a letter T like you have created.
- Have them practice drawing a few more Ts with the three pencils.
Challenge
If your child learns the capital letter T right away, introduce the lower case letter t.
Reinforcement activity
Print out the attached worksheet. Ask your child to complete the worksheet by themselves. Feel free to help them if they get stuck or ask any questions.
Evaluation
In order to see if your child has achieved the goal of this lesson, write a few different letters, including T, on the piece of paper and have them circle the letter T.
