- A piece of paper
What to do:
- Draw the letter Z on the piece of paper and ask your child to repeat its name.
- Ask them to draw a zebra on the paper with the pencil or black crayon (you can show them how a zebra is a bit like a horse, but with black stripes).
- Write the word “Zebra” underneath the drawing.
- Show them that the word hand starts with the letter Z.
- Tell them the sound that Z makes is ‘zuh’.
Challenge
If your child learns the capital letter Z right away, introduce the lower case letter z.
Reinforcement activity
Print out the attached worksheet. Ask your child to complete the worksheet by themselves. Feel free to help them if they get stuck or ask any questions.
Evaluation
In order to see if your child has achieved the goal of this lesson, write a few different letters including the letter Z on the piece of paper and have them circle the Z with the pencil or crayon.
