Objective
To teach you child to learn to count the numbers from 1 to 3.
Goal
At the end of the lesson your child will be able to count the numbers 1, 2 and 3 in succession, and be understand their proper order.
Time requirement
20 minutes.
Grade level
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
Introductory activity
- Take a piece of paper or construction paper and cut out three large circles.
- Write ‘1’ on one circle, ‘2’ on one circle and ‘3’ on another circle.
- Show your child the three circles and teach your child how to count them by laying out one circle at a time, in proper numeric order, atop the table.
- Give your child the circles and ask them to imitate what you just did.
- Repeat the counting activity until you feel that your son or daughter understands the concept of counting to 3.
Challenge
If your child has sufficiently grasped the concept of counting, move on to the lesson to teach them to count from 4 until 6.

Evaluation
In order to see if your child has achieved the goal of this lesson, get three of the same type of object (sea shells, rocks, toys or coins) and have them count them for you. Then, lay down only two objects and ask them to count how many you have.
